Sam ventured into the wonderful world of podcasting in late 2015 as a hobby. She’s parlayed this into a career in podcast production. Today, Sam has produced podcasts that have been featured in the likes of Apple Podcasts, Spotify, the New York Times, Indie Wire , Hustler Magazine, Marie Claire, Elite Daily, Mashable, Harper's Bazaar and Essence. Her work has earned her two Third Coast awards, an ASHG award, a Webby nomination and more. Sam has produced, edited, written, hosted, and engineered various shows. IN THOSE GENES

In Those Genes was awarded the 2020 American Society of Human Genetics Advocacy Award and the 2020 Third Coast / Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition Impact Award. The show is a science and pop culture podcast that uses genetics to uncover the lost histories and futures of African descended Americans through the lens of Black culture. Sam serves as the show’s lead producer and sound designer. Here’s a sample episode all about rap battling direct to consumer genetic testing companies, “Skinfolk, Kinfolk”

INNER HOE UPRISING

Inner Hoe Uprising is a sex, love, and dating podcast helmed by four Black NYC based feminists. The show features themes related to queer identities, trans identities, self-care, mental health, sex positivity, and social justice. In 2020, Mashable described Inner Hoe Uprising as one of (if not the most) diverse sex and relationship weekly podcasts reclaiming sexual conversations for marginalized identities, orientations, and bodies. IHU covers everything from sci-fi-esque futures to the movement for Black lives -- all thru a queer Black feminist lens. Sam serves as the shows executive producer and principal host. The Queens Memory Podcast is a podcast offshoot of the decade old Queens, NY centric oral history project Queens Memory. Season two of the podcast zeroed in to how the residents of Queens, NY -- once the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic -- dealt with COVID-19. Sam reported and produced the episode “Intersection.” It tells the story of two Black first responders working in Queens, NY amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and civil unrest in response to racial violence and explores themes of culture, race, gender, grief, equitable pay, 9/11 and more. “Intersection” won the 2021 Third Coast / Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Competition Impact Award.

FOSTERING HATE

Fostering Hate is a two-part audio documentary that tells the story of an epic battle between the city of Philadelphia and the religious right over LGBTQ parents and the foster system. Part 2 focuses on LGBTQ people who have been deeply impacted by issues of bias, rejection and queer identity in the foster system – each of them ultimately connected by their desire for a chosen family where LGBTQ identities are accepted and celebrated. Sam produced the two part series and sound designed Fostering Hate part 2. Fostering Hate was nominated for a Deadline Club Award and a Webby in 2022.
